IGT Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Rigging of 'Wheel of Fortune' Slot Machines

International Game Technology (IGT), along with major casino operators like MGM Resorts International, Bally’s Corporation, and Penn Entertainment, is facing a lawsuit filed on November 21, 2024. The plaintiffs accuse the companies of deceptive practices involving 'Wheel of Fortune'-themed electronic gaming machines.

The lawsuit alleges that the bonus wheel feature on these machines is misleading, as it appears to offer equal chances of winning various cash prizes, but is allegedly programmed to favor lower payouts. Filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the case seeks compensatory damages and demands transparency regarding the actual odds associated with the bonus wheel feature. The plaintiffs argue that the machines exploit player trust through branding and presentation, masking the alleged rigged mechanics.

IGT has denied the allegations, stating that all machines are independently tested and regulated. The outcome of the case could have significant implications for the gaming industry's use of branded, gamified slot features.
