Alberta iGaming Legislation Advances, Market Launch Expected in Early 2026

Bill 48, the Alberta iGaming Act, cleared its third reading in the provincial legislature—and with the United Conservative Party in majority, it passed largely unamended and is now poised for royal assent. The law establishes the Alberta iGaming Corporation to oversee licensed gambling operations that focus on consumer protection and responsible play.
Once enacted, Alberta will regulate private operators—including NorthStar, FanDuel, DraftKings, theScore BET, PointsBet and others—under a competitive model similar to Ontario’s. AGLC (Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis) will serve as the regulatory authority, shifting bettors away from grey-market channels.
Launch is anticipated in early 2026—meaning operators are racing to prepare platforms, licensing structures, and compliance systems ahead of opening day. Industry insiders suggest Alberta's high disposable income and demand for choice could drive major initial growth if the new market is well-managed.
