Overview

Have you heard about ronins who once lived in Japan? Unlike other samurais who served their shogun, ronins served on one. Weird, right? Especially for Ancient Japan where hierarchy and obedience were of the utmost importance.

Even if you never heard about ronins and are not interested in the history of Japan, you might have watched a movie based on some Japanese legend starring Keanu Reeves. That pretty much gives you the basic idea of who ronins were and what they did. But it’s not passion for ancient history or literature that brought us all here. Sure there are some people crazy about Japan, Samurais, ronins or Keau Reeves, but we here are all into gambling more than anything else. Knowing all these, RTG introduced us the Ronin slot machine, as an attempt to bring all the parties together and rejoice in a little spinning action.

Ronin is a 20 liner featuring five reels. As for the winning combos, you have to land at least three matching tiles on the consecutive reels starting from the leftmost one.

Speaking of tiles, they are not state-of-the-art graphics here. Frankly, that is not what RTG is famous for. We get a set of eleven tiles. Part of those are card symbols. For a combination of five 9s or 10s your line bet is multiplied a 100 times. Five Jacks or Queens are worth 125 x your line wager. Aces and Kings are paid 150 x the bet if you hit the maximum combo of five. The rest of the icons are designed with samurais and Japan in mind. We have a tile with a Flag, worth 500 x the bet for the combination of five. Five helmets are paid the same. A set of five icons with a War-equipped Horse on them is worth 1,000 times the original wager. Five Castles are worth 2,000 times the line bet. The highest paid tile here is a Ronin holding a sword. The set of five is worth 5,000 your original wager.

But those are standard pay icons. As for the special tiles, there are only two of those. One with a Ronin and the other is with a Koku icon. Ronin is the Scatter in the slot and its wins are multiplied by thу total bet. The set of two Ronins multiplies the wager one time, while five tiles are worth 500 x the total stake. The Koku tile is the substitute here. It may replace any symbol except for the Ronin one to form a combination. The wild Koku comes with a 2x multiplier. Mind that Koku tile appears only on the middle reel. If you land a Koku sign along with at least two Ronins elsewhere on the reels, it will initiate the bonus mode.

Actually, there are three possible variants of the bonus game here. A Respin bonus mode is when Koku tiles fill the entire third reel, and it is held still, while the rest of the reels spin continuously from three to ten times. You may retrigger the feature by landing two or more Ronins anywhere on the reels, thus getting up to ten more spins.

The next variant of the bonus game is a free spin round. It is triggered by the Koku and two Ronin combinations as well. Here, you are awarded five free games. The first spin comes with a 1x multiplier. The second has a 2x multiplier applied to all the wins. And the multiplier accrues with every spin. This feature can be retriggered once.

The last but not the least of the feature modes is also a free games mode, but this time you are granted 25 free spins with a set 3x multiplier. This feature is also retriggerable.

But the perks don’t end up here, there are more. Ronin comes with a yummy progressive jackpot, which is getting bigger with every spin. Any gambler has a chance to win it at the end of any game. It’s awarded randomly, and the bet size has nothing to do with your chances of getting it. Any bet counts here. Currently, the Ronin’s jackpot is about $42,245.25, and you might be the lucky one to get it.

As for the gaming interface, it’s pretty much the same as any RTG slot has. Bets per spin vary from $0.01 to $100, depending on how many lines you choose. Make your choice with the ‘Lines’ button at the bottom of the reel-screen. Here, you may also fix your wager size per spin. Spinning is done either manually or in an Auto mode, when the spinning goes on successively the preset number of times. If you have questions about the payouts or combos take a peek at the Help section on the slot menu. It's in the left corner at the bottom of the screen. See, no excess buttons and thus nothing to disturb you from the game.

Whatever brought you to the Ronin slot, it was definitely not without a reason. Maybe you are mad about Japanese warriors with their diverse and elaborate moral code systems. Or you might be a Keanu Reeves fan. Or you are a hardcore gambler who is after one of the biggest progressive wins in the biz. But no matter how you got here, you might take some time and go for some spinning, considering the payouts it might be worth your time!
